Our Traditional Stock Oils are formulated from naturally derived oils and waxes in order to get a beautiful tra To maintain or enhance an oil finished stock, shake the bottle and rub a very small amount into the timber, avoiding the checkering. Rub in using the heat of your hand or the friction of a small rag to help fill the grain. Wipe off any excess and allow to dry. Repeat if necessary. 

To maintain a traditionally oil finished stock, shake the bottle of Finishing Oil a very small amount into the timber, avoiding the checkering.  Wipe off the excess and allow to dry.

The Finishing Process:

For oil finishing from scratch, make sure any raised timber grain has been smoothed by wetting the stock slightly, then sand smooth with wet and dry sand paper. Once stock is properly dry, red oil can be applied and rubbed into the grain to bring out wood grains characteristics and colour. To get the desired effect, you may repeat this step up to four times. Make sure to wipe off any excess red oil and allow to dry before using the finishing oil. Rub a small amount of the finishing oil into the stock and let it almost dry. Be careful to avoid oil build up in the checkered section of the stock. When tacky, add another very light coat and buff by hand, filling the grain

of the timber with the not quite dried oil. Let it partially dry again and repeat the process until the desired finish is achieved. Once completed, leave the stock in a dust free place to dry for a few weeks to properly cure and harden off; the longer the better.
